I think the wall pockets are what did me in first.
I spied these while crawling the Internet, and I first envisioned them in an office and then a kids room and then a kitchen and then an adventurous living room.
Wouldn’t one of these provide an interesting way to store remote controls?
And then I saw that these were made by Ampersand in Cincinnati – just a hop across the Ohio River from where I grew up – and I found some more of their chic goods.
I was a goner.
(And that’s not just because the business is named after punctuation — though that doesn’t hurt.)
According to its site:
Ampersand draws from a uniquely American perspective, fusing function and form into a memorable experience, to craft friendly, intriguing objects that are innately familiar.
Ampersand believes in the practicality of pleasure and possesses a passion for influencing smiles.
Ampersand is the brain child of designer Tim Karoleff, and you can find Ampersand’s goods in four stores in Cincinnati, along with other places across the country.
Here are some more of my favorites.
When I lived near Cincinnati, OTR was the last place you wanted to go, but now it has turned into a haven for independent shops and artists.
And reading about Ampersand and Losantiville has pushed exploring OTR to the top of my list.
I’ve thought a lot more recently about rediscovering the city I spent so much time near growing up. Look for more posts soon.
