I love the unpredictability of flea markets.

Going aisle by aisle and finding new, unexpected curiosities at each booth, from the weird knickknacks to the handmade items to the hand-me-down books.

And I hope some shoppers found some happy surprises at my booth.

As of yesterday, I took the leap from flea market attendee to full-fledged peddler. Em Dash Designs had a booth at the Flea Off Market in the Nulu/East Market District in Louisville.

The Flea Off Market started in 2011, and through the few times that I’ve gone to it, I’ve really fallen in love with it.

I’ve bought an antique globe, old metal fan, hanging terrarium and some books at it in the past, along with great food from some of the local food trucks. I passed up this Kentucky Derby poster last fall and am still kicking myself over it.

About 100 vendors came out yesterday, which had some of the best weather we’ve had all year. And it also ran today, though I just opted to do the one day.

Happily, I was positioned right across from the fine beverages purveyor. Here’s a view from my booth, pom pom garland and all.

I sold infinity scarves and fleur de lis, Kentucky and bus-scroll-themed pillows.

And new to Em Dash Designs were these handmade and hand-stamped linen napkins.

Friend Kirsten Murray — who writes the wonderful blog, the Dupont Diaries, which is about moving from the bustling East Coast to a rural Indiana farm — dropped by and took these photos.

I’m happy that she’s letting me share them.

One of the best parts of the Flea was catching up with friends and talking to the customers.

I have to say, though, that this flea market attendee was, by far, my favorite.

Thanks! Someday we will have to have a S&K Boutique, Em Dash Designs and Apron Empire (bringing in Beth) pop-up shop. That would be a lot of fun! :-)
